Kansas Bankruptcy Court Entrances Closed by Budget Cuts

Only One Door Open to Public

Only one entrance at each of the Kansas bankruptcy courts is now open to the public. All other doors at the courthouses are closed and locked to save money on security staffing because of budget cuts as of June 3, 2013.

All public access to the Frank Carlson Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse will be through the west doors at 444 SE Quincy Street. The PL-2 entrance off Monroe Street will be closed and locked.

Parking
The public should park at the Townsite Parking Garage, located approximately ½ block east of Kansas Ave on 5th Street (just before the road curves and becomes Quincy).

Eaterie/Vending
A cafe is located on the 1st floor of the courthouse. It is open for lunch Monday through Friday, and for breakfast Wednesday through Friday. A variety of vending machines are also located on the 1st floor.

Meeting of Creditors
Meeting of creditors (341 hearings) in Topeka are not conducted in the Courthouse. Meetings are conducted a block west in the office building at 515 S Kansas Avenue in Room 402. The building in tan stucco and black slate. The law firm Goodell Stratton Edmonds & Palmer has its name on the facade of the building.

Parking
Public parking is available in the Metropolitan MultiSpeciality Physicians Group Lot located at 1217 5th Street, on the east side of 5th Street, across the street from the First Baptist Church at 5th Street and Nebraska Street. Do not park in the church lot or in the lot in front of Johnny Cs Restaurant.

Eaterie/Vending
A cafe is located on level M of the courthouse.   The cafe is open for breakfast from 7:30am to 9:30pm and for lunch from 11:00am to 1:30pm.  A variety of vending machines are also available on level M.

Meeting of Creditors
Meeting of creditors (341 hearings) are conducted in Room 173. You will be entering on Ground Level. Take the elevator to the First Floor. The room is in the west wing of the courthouse. Nonattorneys are not allowed to bring cell phones, computers or electronic devices into the courthouse. Persons entering the courthouse must show a government issued photo ID and go through security screening including a metal detector.

Parking
Several pay lots are available near the courthouse including a Public Parking Lot at the southwest corner of 3rd and Main Street; the City of Wichita lot which is one block west of the intersection of 3rd and Main Street and the Sedgwick County Parking Garage located at 603 N. Main Street. Some of the lots have attendants while others require you to deposit the exact fee in a parking box. Parking fees vary but on average cost $5.00 per day. There is also 2 hour metered parking available within walking distance to the courthouse.

Vending machines are available in the break room on level B.
